Inclement Weather Plans

Undergraduate Commencement Exercises Weather Plans
Saturday, May 20, 2017

Morgan State University’s May 2017 Undergraduate Commencement Exercises will be held in the W. A. C. Hughes Memorial Stadium, which is an uncovered outdoor facility, on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Since this is an outdoor facility, the weather can affect how and where we conduct the Exercises. Morgan is committed to making this occasion a comfortable and pleasant one; therefore, we an alternate plan that we are prepared to implement in case the weather conditions change, and we want to make everyone aware of those plans prior to our Commencement Exercises. We recommend that you check the weather forecast on the evening prior to Commencement and weather conditions on the early morning of Commencement, that you dress according to the predicted weather, and that you be prepared to adjust your arrangements, if weather conditions warrant doing so.

If weather conditions prove unsuitable to hold the Commencement Exercises outdoors in the Stadium, the University will change the location of the Exercises and notify everyone of the new locations and times in the following manners;

• MSU E-mail
• MSU Website and Social Media
• MSU Text Alert System
• WEAA-FM Radio Station (88.9 FM)
• Campus Outdoor Warning PA System
• University Student Center Digital Messaging Board

Please familiarize yourself with the following option for holding the Saturday, May 20, 2017, Commencement Exercises:

(1) Normal Weather Plan

If weather conditions are normal or if there is a mist or light, intermittent rain, the Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 20, 2017, will be held in Hughes Memorial Stadium according to plans. Guests will not be required to have Guest Admit Tickets to attend the Exercises in the Stadium. If there is light rain, they should bring umbrellas, and they will be able to purchase rain ponchos for cover and protection, in the University Student Center (next to the Stadium).

(2) Severe Weather Plan

In case of severe weather conditions (thunderstorm, steady rain, heavy downpour, gusty winds, other kinds of severe weather, or emergency circumstances), the Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 20, 2017, will be held in the Talmadge Hill Field House (two buildings south of the Stadium). The Field House has a limited seating capacity that is much less than the Stadium. If it is necessary to move the Exercises indoors, there will be two ceremonies that day.
