Certification for Graduation

Only degree candidates who have been officially cleared and certified for graduation by the Office of the Registrar may participate in the University’s Commencement Exercises. There are two steps required in order for degree candidates to participate in the University’s Commencement Exercises.

Step 1: Official Notification of Certification for Graduation

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE CANDIDATES

The Office of the Registrar will certify students academically for graduation and grant permission to participate in the University’s Commencement Exercises. The Office of the Registrar will notify students of their certification only via Morgan email. No certifications will take place on the day of Commencement.

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE CANDIDATES WHO DO NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION

If a degree candidate is notified by the Office of the Registrar that they have not been certified for graduation and believe this is in error, they should contact their School – Office of the Dean – immediately to determine what requirements remain unfulfilled.  If an error is discovered and resolved, the degree candidate may contact the Office of the Registrar at graduation@morgan.edu to have their status re-evaluated.

GRADUATE SCHOOL DEGREE CANDIDATES

The Office of the Registrar will certify graduate degree candidates academically for graduation and grant permission to participate in the University’s Commencement Exercises. The Registrar will notify students of their certification only via Morgan email. No certifications will take place the day of Commencement.

GRADUATE DEGREE CANDIDATES WHO DO NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION

If a graduate degree candidate is informed by the Office of the Registrar that they have not been certified for graduation and they believe this to be in error, then they should contact their graduate program coordinator immediately to determine what requirements remain unfulfilled.  If an error is discovered and is resolved, the degree candidate may contact the Office of the Registrar at graduation@morgan.edu to have their status re-evaluated.  Degree candidates should investigate as soon as they are notified of their UNMET status.

Step 2: Certification, Guest Admit Tickets and Graduation Rehearsal Videos – All Graduating Candidates

Once degree candidates have been notified of their certification for graduation and they are financially cleared, they should return to campus on the designated day to receive their Graduation Packet in order to participate in the University Commencement Exercises.

In the past, Morgan has sponsored what is called a Commencement Corner Day.  This event is usually held the day before Commencement so that students can pick up their Graduation packet, view the rehearsal videos, and get more information about Commencement. Students do not have to bring their regalia to this event.

Graduate School candidates are asked to contact the Graduate School to obtain their Graduation packet.

The Graduation Packet includes:

  • Certification Card
  • Guest Admit Tickets – only needed for indoor ceremonies or if there is rain on Commencement day (See Guest Admit Tickets)
